If you’re interested in the world of technology, you may have heard the term Campfires and Caves. It’s the idea of having an office space set up so that there is room for both privacy and meetings. This is great for creative agencies who need to collaborate regularly, but may also seek out refuge to do work in a quiet environment. Sounds like a pretty great setup, right?
Well, what if this didn’t just apply to office spaces? Hear me out.
As Christians, we’re called to be a light. In everything we do, we’re supposed to shine bright among the darkness that may surround us. And it is totally, completely 100% acceptable to submerge yourself into that darkness as long as your light continues to shine bright for others, to lead. But, when it looks as though your light is growing dim, what do you do? You were supposed to be this fantastic glow, displaying God’s love and shining for all to see. But what happened?
You probably spent too much time in a cave, and not enough time around the campfire.
You see, as Christians, we need to have people in our lives that can ground us. We need to make sure we’re being held accountable and not dipping into the lifestyles of the hypocritical Christian that so many non-believers say we are. And most importantly, we need to be rooted in Christ. Continually filling yourself full of the Holy Spirit so you can pour into others in absolutely necessary to go into those deep, dark, scary caves.
Think of the Holy Spirit as the blazing center of the campfire that never goes out, never dies, but simply eternally burns. That’s where your source of life, energy, love, hope and determination comes from. And if you spend too much time away from that fire, you get cold, distant, detached, and far-removed from the things that are supposed to break your heart and allow you to feel compassion.
I just think there are so many times where we as Christians, begin to fall away from the Lord without even realizing it. We think we’re doing His will, but somehow we feel burnt out, disappointed when things don’t go how we thought they would, or downright angry that things aren’t going as planned. After all, when God sends you to do something, things are supposed to go perfectly right? 😉
So before you got back out into the wilderness, into the depths of those dark caves, torch held high…make sure it’s lit.
